DID SOMEONE MENTION LACK OF PROTEIN?

I’ve always liked burgers, but since I started getting to know the world of plant based burgers, I’ve been even more in love.

As I told you in a previous post, the possibilities of combining ingredients are practically endless, and a different herb or spice is enough to make all the difference and completely change the taste and experience.

The recipe I bring you today is one of those very simple and express, which can make your daily life much easier. It’s not a fancy burger but it’s definitely one of the simplest and tastiest I’ve ever made.

A burger that we can eat well on a bun, but also with rice, potatoes or even pasta. I call it the “family burger”, because of its versatility but also because of its texture and simple flavor that meets the demands of the youngest and the oldest.

THIS RECIPE IS:

SUPER TASTY | SOFT AND WET INSIDE | SIMPLE | EASY | QUICK | SATISFYING | HIGH IN PROTEIN

Usually, the dough of plant based burgers needs some time in the cold before it can be molded, this because due to its consistency, the colder it is, the more cohesive and firm it is and then easier to work with it.

But I wanted to bring a recipe that was really practical, capable of help us in times when we don’t have a lot of time but we need something to put on our plate and eat. So with this recipe, let’s skip the fridge phase and shape up our burgers right away.

This recipe is quite simple, you will only need to saute onion and garlic with a bay leaf and everything else is mixed in a bowl without needing to be pre-cooked.

I usually make burgers with cooked legumes, but this time I used Dragon SuperFoods Textured Plant Protein. I had never done it and I was pleasantly surprised. It absorbs flavors and seasonings very well and it´s easy to shape up. And the final texture is delicious! It is a vegan and organic product with a neutral taste, made only from pea protein, fava bean protein and salt. This means that it is a high protein product, around 54gr of protein per 100gr, which makes it an excellent option to nutritionally enrich any simple meal. I became a fan! And I even see myself making lasagna with this product!

Well, about the recipe there isn’t much more to be said, because it’s really simple to make, so take your notepad and a pen and write out the ingredients. You can do it today for your lunch or dinner.

Ingredients:

150gr de Dragon SuperFoods Textured Plant Protein
1 onion cut into half moons
2 chopped garlic cloves
Olive oil
1 bay leaf
1 small grated carrot
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 coffee spoon of cumin
3 tbsp of soy sauce
Fresh Chives, parsley and thyme, to taste
3 tbsp of flaxseeds meal
5 tbsp of breadcrumbs

Ingredients:

150gr de Dragon SuperFoods Textured Plant Protein
1 onion cut into half moons
2 chopped garlic cloves
Olive oil
1 bay leaf
1 small grated carrot
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 coffee spoon of cumin
3 tbsp of soy sauce
Fresh Chives, parsley and thyme, to taste
3 tbsp of flaxseeds meal
5 tbsp of breadcrumbs

Instructions:

1- Start by hydrating the textured protein, soaking it in hot water. The hot water should be double the amount of protein. Let it rest for about 5 minutes.

2- Cut the onion into thin half moons and chop the garlic cloves. Add a drizzle of olive oil in a skillet, add a bay leaf and saute the onion and garlic, until they start to take on a yellowish color and a smooth texture.

3- With the help of a strainer, strain the textured protein to discard any remaining water. Once strained, place it in a bowl.

4- Add the sauteed onion and garlic, and the remaining ingredients and stir with a spatula or wooden spoon. Wrap it well until you get an easy-to-mould dough. If necessary, use your hands to incorporate all the ingredients well.

5- Shape the burgers with the help of a round metal ring, the kind you use to cut mini cakes, placing the mixture inside the ring and pressing with the help of a spoon or even your hands. You can do this molding process using just your hands, but it’s going to take a little extra work.

6- You can cook the burgers right away, but you can also freeze them for later or another day.

7- To cook, preheat a generous amount of olive oil in a skillet, put the burgers on it as soon as the olive oil is hot and let it cook on one side for about 3 minutes or until you see that it starts to form a golden crust. Then turn it on the other side and let it cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. (The use of a spatula to turn the burgers in the skillet is essential, to prevent them from falling apart) This process may vary from stove to stove, so you must make sure that the burgers do not burn, always gently.

8- You can enjoy the burgers by themselves with rice, fries, or any other accompaniment or you can follow the suggestion and assemble a delicious hamburger on the bun. A simple lettuce, tomato, cheese, ketchup and mayonnaise combine incredibly well!
